Goals of the International Opera Foundation Eszterháza

In August 2005, the initiative was taken to create an International Opera Foundation Eszterháza with three purposes:

To rebuild the 1781 Opera House at Eszterháza with all of its original features, especially those concerning acoustics and stage machinery, with the aim to make this theatre a centre where eighteenthcentury opera can be performed true to the original.

To resurrect the original Eszterháza repertoire of nearly one hundred operas, including the works of Haydn and other composers, which are rarely, if ever, performed today.

To establish an International Opera Academy where the different elements of eighteenth-century opera performances are researched and taught to singers, stage directors, designers and scholars, thereby ensuring a high level of authentic staging in the Opera House and elsewhere in the world. For these three purposes, we offer the following justification:
